Songbook: Danish Ladies

To the tune of 'Spanish Ladies', written by Sam in around May of 2023

Wassail and drinkhail to fair Danish ladies
Wassail and drinkhail to fair ladies of home
For we’re received orders to go raiding in England
And we hope in a short time to see you again

Chorus:
We’ll rant and we’ll roar, like true Viking raiders
We'll range and we'll raid, across the salt seas
Until we make landing on the of shores of the Saxons
From Jelling to Jorvik ‘tis three hundred leagues

We row our ship forth, with the winds at southwest, boys
We row our ship forth, a landing to make
'Twas fourty-five raiders in a longship from Denmark
So we hauled out our oars and up Channel did make

Chorus

The first land we raided was the isle of Portland,
Next Lindisfarne, Jarrow, Monkwearmouth and Wight
We sailed by Sheppey, by Dublin and Orkney
Then bore straight away for that south London light!

Chorus

Now the signal was made for us raiders to anchor,
And all in the downs, that night for to lie,
Hide now all your treasures, your relics and silver
Bring up your own shield now, let axe and spears fly!

Chorus

And let every man drink up his full bumper,
And let every man here drink up his full horn
We’ll slay and be jolly; Valhalla will call me,
And here’s to the health of my true-hearted lass

Chorus
