Language: Fæder ure

This is the Lord's Prayer in the West Saxon dialect of Old English. It's included here because it's a nice example of the language, i.e. where the differences and similarities with modern English are. It's also handy if you decide to portray a clergyman, monk or nun at living history events.

Fæder ure þu þe eart on heofonum
si þin nama gehalgod
to becume þin rice
gewurþe þin willa
on eorðan swa swa on heofonum
urne gedæghwamlican hlaf syle us to dæg
and forgyf us ure gyltas
swa swa we forgyfað urum gyltendum
and ne gelæd þu us on costnunge
ac alys us of yfele.
Soþlice.
