Since Ferny can't get on the forum to do it; here's a thread with existing stuff from the list:

IIRC we did the school thing for £100 plus expenses on the basis mostly of wear and tear on kit… and that £100 = 2 helmets.

The old forum had hire stuff in the committee section. essentially, we did valid cheque to the total replacement value of the kit, charging hire at 5 or 10% of the value per day, subject to any special arrangements. No charges if the kit is the charge of a WW member.

Wed of 8th week. I should be here and up for it. We could maybe direct them to our wiki page on what we did at *mumble* school: role-play encounter, show and tell, combat demo, cooking, hnafltafl craft, beads craft, try on our stuff, *mumblewolf* adaptation etc.

What is our going rate for this kinda event? I know we like to do it, but we should charge for 2 reasons:
1) not to undercut other societies and make ourselves unpopular
2) coz we could use new helmets, ww kit, £££
I think we charge less to schools/charities than we would for professional film companies or whatever, but I don't know our prices. I don't think its on the wiki yet (nor is our hire policy, if we've formalised one).

I don't think that's quite accurate.

When we did the Great Milton Primary School thing, we charged them GPB 50.-, explaining that it was essentially a nominal fee in order not to alienate other groups etc. (we don't want them to think that we are greedy), and they then chose to give us a generous tip. I think it depends how many people they want. If they just want four or five, make it 50.-, if they want ten of us, make it 100.-. Plus travel expenses, of course.

Last time, we started by a roleplaying display, where essentially a Viking trader displayed his goods, which gave us a chance to show lots of different items to children. (I can't wait to display my Viking earspoon…) Then one of the Saxons found a thurible among the goods which he recognised as being stolen from his village church, which eventually lead to a fight between the Saxons and the trader with his guards.
After that, the children were split into four or five groups who rotated round between different activities, such as trying on kit, cooking, making jewellery, making hnefatafl boards and learning how to play it. At the end there was an assembly and we did another display reading Beowulf.
That worked quite well, I seem to remember, except that the times for each group with its activities was a bit too short, although the children were the best behaved in the world.

We agreed to do Great Milton for £50 plus expenses. Expenses (material for pouches, shiny card, wire, etc) were < £50, they gave us £100 in total. Which was nice of them

I'm well up for doing another school trip, it was a good laugh last time. I've actually done a similar social hierarchy dress-up at my Little Bro's school since then as well, for their Knights lessons…
