Hi guys, i need to make some shoes for use with the scroll and other stuff - what pattern is simplest and fastest, and where do i get the equipment i will need?

I'd say the Birka Traders' guide is the simplest and clearest. It also has a pattern that's in proportion and so can be enlarged on a photocopier. As for equipment, Le Prevo is a huge online leather store with lots of useful stuff (http://leprevo.co.uk/). You can buy straight awls and beeswax from Gill & Co off the Hight Street. Linen thread is mysteriously difficult to get in Oxford, but if you ask the people in the Golden Cross leather shop nicely and make a donation to their charity collection, they might give you some. You might also want heel cushions, which you can get from Timpson for a few quid.

I saw a LARP website that recommended making a mix of finely-chopped rubber and rubber cement and painting it on. Not tried it though. You can also buy non-slip, glue-on soles from Timpson for just under a tenner. The disadvantage is they will be visible from a mile away if you let the soles of your feet show.
