I may be able to take a day off to do the 28th May day at the Ashmolean, but I won't be able to confirm until nearer the time.

With Briavels booked for the weekend before (8-10 May) I think if we go for 11th-16th May, with the weekend as preference, for this event(s). That fits with V's mid-May. I'll email this suggestion off. Please discuss at Committee Meeting. Any reasons why we shouldn't do this week/weekend, please let me know.

Fernyx

I am up for this too. I'm big on the educational events. We do this for fun, but also because re-enactment is one of the best ways of understanding and exploring history and historical issues. We are not (merely) role players or dudes who like to hit each other with swords. We are (sometimes ;)) concerned with being historically accurate. And useful to society. Sometimes.

But yes, rant over. I think a collection could be a good idea too. I think this shall go down on the list for discussion at committee meeting on Wed.

Perhaps mid-May?

V

27th of April to the 19th June is term time. Presumably we want earlier rather than later, due to exams. Has to not clash with Briavels. IMO, less important that everyone can make this than Briavels, as that is a big WW outing, and for this a smaller contingent can put on a good show and we do this kind of thing (tho not exactly this) on a more regular basis.

I'm really for this, it's just the sort of thing that re-enactment is so good for - it's why I became a member, so there may be a little me in that crowd somewhere!

If the event is in Oxford, what sort of expenses will there be? Can we just put out a collection box or something, if we need to get a little money for this? We could use it to make it up to hose who are coming from outside of Oxford or something. As a student I must say; FREE FOOD!!! This is exactly the sort of well deserving motive for an activity, of course!

BTW, Ferny! I'm on! Yay!

There is flexibility on the dates; I already anticipated April being bad and we've a lot of freedom on this. We can almost name a date and have it organised around us at this stage.

They will give us reasonable expenses and lunch, but they're both going to be minimal cost being Oxford based! They may not be willing to rebate a trip up from outside of Oxford, but they would happily refund Oxford bus tickets etc.

It's a museum event. Beyond that I don't have any details (I think they haven't been arranged), but it will focus on kids. Whether schools or families I'm not sure, but I suspect families.

Oxford Museum is the current option, but I'd rather do it with a University Museum if possible (joint museums event?), to mitigate the fact that they're not really paying us (at least on paper). The person I'm liaising with works at both. I'd normally guess either Pitt Rivers or Ashmolean, but both are closed, so I'm a little stumped as to how, but I'll sort it out if it becomes necessary.

What I need from wychwood:
Are we in principle for or against this?
What about the whole money thing?
What dates are GOOD, BAD and DOABLE but not ideal?
What activities would we like to do extra?
Questions to ask Caroline (the lady organising this).
Anything else people think necessary for this whole adventure…

It seems to be the Oxford Museum, from Ferny's email.

April isn't good at all. The weekend of the 4th is in hols, the 11th is Hauksby, the 18th is moving-back-weekend, the 25th is DAS COAM. May, on the other hand, is all brilliant.

Can you give a bit more info, e.g. which museums, what sort of thing? e.g. do you have in mind organised school trips, random passers by or what? I'd suggest trying to get at least expenses and something to eat out of them.

Are we interested? Do we need to charge, and if so how much? What can we offer beyond the basic fighting?

Also, what dates would be convenient? Obviously term time trumps holidays. Hauksby trumps museums. DAS would be a potential conflict. Exams might worry some people (like me), although they persistently don't seem to bother Hauksbians. Dates/range required.

Ferny
