Oh, fully agree. But if we start from a basic premise of charging £10 per person to cover transport, if we end up with a bit of a profit it's not the end of the world.

wow, it never even occured to me that a village would have trains!

If we can rustle up a couple of cars between us, that's probably easier and certainly cheaper than everybody toting kit on the train. We can see nearer the time what the numbers look like.

Considering trains cost under £10 and take under half an hour, a minibus sounds more hassle than it's worth? Unless we get HUGE numbers, of course.

I wonder if you could recruit a few DAS members to come and join in? Obviously it needs to be a Wychwood event and not get taken over by another society, but there would probably be a few DASers who'd be happy to come along for beer and giggles, to boost the numbers a bit. You'd have to work out how it'd work as far as insurance is concerned, because the DAS insurance won't cover a non-DAS event and the Wychwood insurance will only cover Wychwood members. Anyway, just a thought.

I'm certainly up for the event, I can do crafty stuff. If enough people are coming from Oxford, then a minibus could be a possibility - make it part of the fee?

I still think we need to discuss costing, although I also think we need to get out and do as many events as possible.

We're also tied a little in that we cannot plan that far in advance. However, in principle I'm up for it. If we're happy to do it for cost and booze, then reply as dom suggests.

Oh sorry! Wychwood doesn't have to plan around DAS. I'm looking at a different date for Murton so as to avoid clashing with the Wychwood event. So if WW wants to do the show, please go ahead.

well any useful suggestions? I can't just not email this guy back or tell him something entirely unhelpful like we may or may not be able to depending on an event which hasn't even been thought about yet!

Hmm, at the OM they said that Bank Holidays are generally discouraged because people are often doing Other Stuff then.

If there's a DAS event, especially at Murton, afraid I'll be there not at Shipton…

I think these things are always fun and we should do more…but we do need a policy on costing. One risk of doing things too cheaply is irritating other societies by grossly undercutting them. Not very helpful comments i know…maybe discuss at next weeks committee meeting?

I've been wondering about trying to book DAS into York for the August bank holiday weekend (which is when it traditionally used to be) and was checking with the Sec. & other key members about feasibility. However if WW are doing a big thing on the Saturday, it might not work out (unless people were happy to come on up to York on Saturday evening). I don't want to arrange an almighty clash again!

I'm still up for it. Can't think of anything I normally do on that bank holiday.

Transport per person will be about a tenner by train. Plus hopefully Logseims can run shields and weapons and stuff.

Just to check, I think that's the Saturday of the August Bank Holiday weekend. While the event sounds brilliant, the timing may reduce the number of people who can turn up.

Hi, I hope this is the right contact! Are the Wychwood Warriors still active and do you support local fetes?
The Shipton under Wychwood fete next August 29 is raising money for a new children's playground in the village and a dark ages re-enactment would be a marvellous attraction for the younger (and older ) members of the community!
We are based in the Wychwoods, hence the interest, and I'm sure we can come up with a historic local conflict worthy of recreation!
Please let me know if this is a possibilty and how we might organise something with you.
