Using the Wiki (new threads)

Bit of a cheek here, but any help would be appreciated.

I'm setting up a new Wiki on wikidot to store and help distribute PDF files relevent to Vikings in general and The Vikings as a society.

I'm trying to set it up so that folk who want to post articles and pages have to be a member, but I can't get it right. Coudl someone here tell me which settings to tweak to allow people to apply for membership ?

Well, now there is also Wiki-stalking. So I am in fact pretty certain who went on the Wiki today for example, in particular, who spent a lot of time there (other than me), etc. How? From the "statistics" tool you can have IP addresses of visitors displayed, with details about location, time of stay, etc., and also "host" which, for Oxford addresses gives away the college. It shouldn't be too hard to identify which ones are Oxford ones (many, if not all, of them start in the same way).

To find out your own IP address go to http://www.ip-adress.com/

Re-organised Events

The original Events system didn't really make much sense. Hopefully this will?

I've split the events into two sections:
Schools/museums/living history is for all the bits where we're chatting to the public.
Fighting is for, well, fighting. Tintagel and Hastings, that sort of thing.
Shows which combine both talking-education-bits and fighting (Great Milton, Oxford Castle) just go in both.

I've also renamed all the events pages. So any event should now be called events-name-200n.

I'm still undecided with videos. We could keep them in separate pages (events-name-200n-video) or we could insert them into the main pages just like pictures. Dunno?

We could do with checking that all the links on the website at

are on the Wiki in the relevant places. I've started the job by creating a page of links to other societies.

http://wychwood.wikidot.com/forum:recent-posts is a page that lists changes to the forum, starting with the most recent. Useful!

Alternatively, there are RSS feeds.

http://wychwood.wikidot.com/feed/forum/threads.xml is the feed that tells you about new threads.
http://wychwood.wikidot.com/feed/forum/posts.xml is the feed that tells you about new posts (it's better, but has more stuff).

These feeds are syndicated on Livejournal, meaning that if you have a Livejournal you can add them to your Friends Page.
http://syndicated.livejournal.com/wwforumposts/ tells you about new posts.
http://syndicated.livejournal.com/wwforumthreads/ tells you about new threads.
This feed works fairly well, but Really Doesn't Like e-mail addresses and writes gibberish instead. But it gives you a link to the forum, so that's the important thing.
