Hi Pete,

No probs - ask away! To change settings, you need to go the the site manager (yourwiki.wikidot.com/admin:manage) while logged in as an administrator or the site owner.

If you then click on "Membership" you can choose how to manage membership. Wikiwood is set up as "membership by password." You choose a password and tell it to those Wikidot members you want to join your wiki. They need to log in to their Wikidot account and go to yourwiki.wikidot.com/system:join and put in the password.

If you prefer, you can set up a completely private wiki, where you have to be a member even to see the wiki pages and files. You can do this by going to "Public or private" in the site manager.

Don't forget that you might also need to alter "Permissions" in the site manager to control who is allowed to create, edit or delete pages. e.g. you might want to make Regia local group leaders mods of the wiki and then only allow mods to delete pages. To make someone a moderator, go to "Members -> list members" in the site manager, click "options" for the person you;ve chosen and then "to moderators."

Hope this helps,

Freya

Coudl someone here tell me which settings to tweak to allow people to apply for membership ?

Pete

You may have come across real (physical) stalking, facebook-stalking, whatever-else-stalking…
Well, now there is also Wiki-stalking. So I am in fact pretty certain who went on the Wiki today for example, in particular, who spent a lot of time there (other than me), etc. How? From the "statistics" tool you can have IP addresses of visitors displayed, with details about location, time of stay, etc., and also "host" which, for Oxford addresses gives away the college. It shouldn't be too hard to identify which ones are Oxford ones (many, if not all, of them start in the same way).

To find out your own IP address go to http://www.ip-adress.com/

Happy stalking!

The original Events system didn't really make much sense. Hopefully this will?

I've split the events into two sections:
Schools/museums/living history is for all the bits where we're chatting to the public.
Fighting is for, well, fighting. Tintagel and Hastings, that sort of thing.
Shows which combine both talking-education-bits and fighting (Great Milton, Oxford Castle) just go in both.

I've also renamed all the events pages. So any event should now be called events-name-200n.

I'm still undecided with videos. We could keep them in separate pages (events-name-200n-video) or we could insert them into the main pages just like pictures. Dunno?

You're a hip young thing, looking to find out what's new and happening on the Wikiwood Forum. Possibly.
Luckily, there are several ways to do this! Hurrah!

http://wychwood.wikidot.com/forum:recent-posts is a page that lists changes to the forum, starting with the most recent. Useful!

Alternatively, there are RSS feeds.
What are RSS feeds, I hear you cry? Never fear, the Beeb is here to explain: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/help/3223484.stm
http://wychwood.wikidot.com/feed/forum/threads.xml is the feed that tells you about new threads.
http://wychwood.wikidot.com/feed/forum/posts.xml is the feed that tells you about new posts (it's better, but has more stuff).

These feeds are syndicated on Livejournal, meaning that if you have a Livejournal you can add them to your Friends Page.
http://syndicated.livejournal.com/wwforumposts/ tells you about new posts.
http://syndicated.livejournal.com/wwforumthreads/ tells you about new threads.
This feed works fairly well, but Really Doesn't Like e-mail addresses and writes gibberish instead. But it gives you a link to the forum, so that's the important thing.

Good luck, Warriors!

Looks like good stuff! I'd definitely be interested in practicing with you, getting in some more experience so I don't keep getting beaten at DAS :D

I've made a couple of minor wiki-edits, added a table of contents and renamed it (we tend to go with fighting-weapon rather than weapon-fighting). But yeah, useful stuff, cheers!
